Summerlin pupils learn about safety
Pupils at three public elementary schools in the Summerlin master-planned community recently attended a special program sponsored by the Summerlin Children's Forum, a nonprofit corporation established by The Howard Hughes Corp. and community leaders to address the needs of children in the community. E.W. Staton Elementary, Richard Bryan Elementary and John Bonner Elementary pupils were treated to the musical stylings of Jim Starr, a former Los Angeles police officer known as "The Singing Cop," and his partner Miss Christina, who performed a safety and health program titled "Starrland." The program included safety information, such as the importance of seat belts, as well as tips about health, nutrition and exercise. The assemblies were presented through the Starr-Gem Safety Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to educating children in health and safety issues, with the Forum's corporate sponsorship. All Summerlin schools are eligible to participate in Forum programs. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has consistently ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community much of the last decade and is home to more than 60,000 residents.
