Second Carefree center emerges in Summerlin

Construction is under way on Summerlin's second Carefree Senior Living center. It is expected to open next year and is located in The Willows Village on an 11-acre parcel.

Upon completion, Carefree Willows will feature 300 apartment homes, ranging from 714 to 1,253 square feet, parking facilities, and a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse that includes an office, library with Internet access, entertainment room, billiards room, fitness center, community kitchen and a salon.

The center will also feature outdoor amenities including a pool, spa, outdoor barbecue area, community gardens, putting green and bocce court.

According to Carrie Barone, vice president of property management for The Templeton Group, developer of Carefree Senior Living, the centers are designed to promote wellness through social and recreational programming that caters to the needs and interests of its senior residents.

"We recognize the importance of being socially and physically active during all stages of life, especially during the mature years," Barone said. "Our residents have the opportunity to benefit from a variety of social and recreational activities and events designed to enhance their lifestyles and sustain their independence."

The first Carefree center in Summerlin, Carefree Pueblo, opened in 2000 in The Pueblo Village. Carefree Willows will be located on the northeast corner of Desert Inn Road and Town Center Drive. Other senior living centers in Summerlin include Las Ventanas in the Summerlin Centre, and Atria Seville, also in The Pueblo Village.

"Summerlin is a multi-generational community. As such, there is a need for first-class facilities like Carefree Willows that cater to seniors who want to maintain their independence while eliminating maintenance and some of the requirements of home ownership," said Peggy Chandler, senior vice president of community development for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.

"At facilities like Carefree Willows, seniors enjoy an active and full life close to a variety of recreational amenities, family members and friends who share similar interests. It's a great place to enjoy the golden years."
