Ex-governor lives in Summerlin
When former Nevada Gov. Robert List decided to make Las Vegas his permanent residence, he searched valleywide before purchasing a home for his family in Summerlin. "We thoroughly searched everywhere in Las Vegas looking for a wholesome, secure, family environment with a wide range of amenities, recreational activities and life- style. We found it all in Summerlin," List said. List, his wife Mary Ann, and their children, Robert, 8, and Elizabeth, 6, have lived in the community for four years. He also has three adult children: Suzanne, Hank and Michelle. List spent 12 years in Nevada government as district attorney, attorney general and governor. He owns a consulting firm that provides government affairs, regulatory and political advisory services to corporate clients. This year, he bought an office building in the community's Hills Center Business Park. "After living in Summerlin for a few years, I recognized the synergy of the business community here, and I wanted to be a part of it," he said. "Hills Center Business Park is only a few minutes away from my home. That has totally changed the dynamic of my business. My office is more casual and conducive to family living. I can go pick up my kids from school and be back to the office in less than 15 minutes. I relish the opportunity to balance both work and family." Larry Brocato, executive vice president for Summerlin's developer, The Howard Hughes Corp., said the business park allows small- to medium-sized companies to own their building. Hills Center is one of several business parks within the community, and is in its second phase of construction. Hills Center North Business Park will add 150,000 square feet to the 22.5-acre park. Summerlin is being developed in villages and is home to eight golf courses, 107 parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, and shopping centers. Nearly 120 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Homes are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites are priced from the $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s.
