Custom-home owners tout Rolladen shutters
Rolladen Rolling Shutters are helping Ray and Kris Hamblen get the most out of their 4,400-square-foot custom home in the southwestern valley. The shutters, which cover 19 doors and windows along the east-facing back of their home, keep out the sun's heat and ultraviolet rays. In addition to the benefit of lowering their power bills, the Hamblens said their remote-controlled shutters are used to darken their home during daylight hours to provide theater-like conditions to watch television. "I knew about them from seeing their office on Charleston Boulevard," said Ray Hamblen, owner of a pool company. "We were treated very well by Rolladen. All the scheduling was done on time and when you consider that the shutters lower your power bill $200 to $300 a month, they're well worth it. If we left our shutters up we would have a power bill that would be frightening. "And we didn't want to wake up in the morning to the sun hitting us in the face," added Kris Hamblen. The shutters are filled, rolling aluminum slats that can be operated manually or electrically. A company spokesman said they can lower power consumption by as much as 64 percent and help prevent burglaries. Through November, the company is offering free remote controls with the purchase of shutters on custom homes. Owner Fran Minnozzi opened the company in the valley nearly 20 years ago. A showroom is located at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., west of Jones Boulevard. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and by appointment on Saturdays.
