A key amenity at Mountain's Edge will be an 80-acre, western-themed park, one of four that will honor the early residents and visitors in the surrounding area. The park will be located on the south side of the master-planned community's 2,846-foot-high Exploration Peak on which Focus Property Group, master developer, restored more than 10,000 native plants as part of the revegetation of the mountain. "Mountain's Edge encompasses much of the Las Vegas Valley's historical elements," said John Ritter, chief executive, referring to the community's proximity to the Old Spanish Trail. "The idea behind the park is to have it become a community hub, where families can gather and folks can go to relax and enjoy the outdoor environment of the Southern Nevada desert, and maybe even learn about their community's beginnings." Designed by Greey/Pickett landscape architects, the park is planned to resemble an Old West town with a main street, replica buildings and facades, and a dirt road that leads to a children's play area, complete with climbing structures. American Indian elements are also planned, as are play areas with covered wagons, water towers and a mock archeological dig area. The park is expected to open by mid-2005. The other historical-themed parks will honor the Paiutes tribe; John C. Fremont, a pioneer explorer; Helen Stewart, a founder of the Las Vegas Valley; and Nathaniel Jones, a 19th century miner. A 320-acre regional park is planned near the geographic center of Mountain's Edge and will provide adult and youth baseball fields, multi-use sports fields, and picnic and play areas. It will also be the site of community events and other activities. About 500 acres of open space will be featured within the 3,000-acre community, which will comprise about 12,500 residences from more than 20 builders. The first model homes are expected to open early next year, and some builders have opened sales trailers. Among them is Meritage Homes, which offers Yellowstone, a community of 16 single- and two-story floor plans among four neighborhoods. Amenities will include neighborhood parks, as well as a clubhouse with two swimming pools, a spa, kitchen, party room, basketball court, playground, workout areas and barbecue facilities. Concordia Homes has started showing lots for Bella Monte, where three single- and two-story floor plans are available. Beazer will open a sales trailer for Collina, offering three- to six-bedroom residences with 2 1/2 to 4 baths and three- and four-car garages. Lennar will offer five models at Marble Canyon; Toll Bros. will offer four designs at Madera; and US Home will build Tramonto, which will comprise four models. KB Home plans to open a sales trailer by year's end for Chaco Canyon, a community of three neighborhoods: Anasazi Series, Bonito Canyon and Villas. Several builders are in the grading process and include KB, Pardee, Beazer, DR Horton, Woodside, Concordia and Meritage. Other builders are: Amstar, Astoria, Avante, Chartered, Desert Wind, Juliet, Kimball Hill, R/S Development, Ryland, Storybook, Trophy and Warmington Nevada. They will accept lot reservations within the coming months. To reach the community's information center, take Interstate 15 to Blue Diamond Road then head west to Buffalo Drive. Focus Property Group is also developing the 1,200-acre Providence community in the northwestern valley, and plans to develop another master plan on a 1,940-acre parcel in Henderson.
