For the fourth consecutive year, Pardee Homes has signed on as title sponsor of the Northern Exposure 10k Race and 2-Mile Fun Run. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the builder's Eldorado community in North Las Vegas. The race will begin and end in the 22-acre Seastrand Park, located at Camino Eldorado and Centennial Parkway. "The course for the Northern Exposure 10k has become a favorite among local runners with challenging topography and stunning views of the northern mountains," said Mike Henley, director of the city's parks and recreation department. "This annual event is a great opportunity for us to `expose' people to this exciting North Las Vegas area, as well as an opportunity for serious runners to win cash prizes." The race course heads south from the park through Eldorado, over a detention basin, uphill to Clayton Road then downhill and back to the park. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the race at 8:30 and the fun run at 8:45. The run/walk will followed by a community health fair and a Kids' Fun Fitness Challenge that includes softball, basketball and an obstacle course. An awards ceremony follows at 11:30. "There is also a cash prize for the school or team that has the most participants in the event," Henley said. Registration is $18 per person in advance and $30 on the day of the event. A T-shirt is included. A family of four can participate for $52, while a family of five can register for $65. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics and the city's parks department.
