The Las Vegas Chapter of Executive Women's Golf Association, in conjunction with the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation, will hold a golf tournament to benefit women's athletics at the university, according to Rhonda L. Mushkin of the golf association. The Fore UNLV Women's Sports Tournament is scheduled Oct. 8 at the Rhodes Ranch golf course. Among the celebrity participants will be three-time U.S. Open champion Susie Berning. "The association's mission is to promote and foster a spirit of acceptance, dignity and respect for career-oriented women golfers of all ability levels," Mushkin said. "We are thrilled that Jim Rhodes and Rhodes Ranch are working with us and have donated the golf course for this important event." For the past year, the golf association has been actively involved in promoting the creation of a women's golf team at UNLV. Last year, an intra-club tournament raised more than $1,500 in support of the program. This year, they hope to raise more than $25,000. "We're excited to be a part of such an important event," Jim Rhodes, president of Rhodes Homes, said. "Giving back to the community has always been important to me, and we jumped at the chance to help UNLV women's athletics. We are really looking forward to a great tournament." The Rhodes Ranch golf course, designed by Ted Robinson, is open to the public. "We're happy that so many people have already signed up to support us in the tournament. We're going to have an incredible turnout, and the players will have a lot of fun while they help a great cause," Mushkin said. Entries are limited to the first 144 players and are being accepted until the Sept. 29 deadline. To view the golf course and its community, take Interstate 215 to Durango Drive, then go south past Warm Springs Road and follow the signs.
