Sun City Anthem resident lives to swim
For a woman who has traveled to Budapest, Hungary, and Seoul, South Korea, Sun City Anthem must seem like a walk in the park. But Becky Kay never takes it easy; the Henderson resident uses the facilities at her age-qualified community to swim, golf and take yoga classes. Kay, who has lived at the community since last June, said she and her husband found the community when they decided to move to Southern Nevada to be closer to her parents. "We shopped around quite a bit," Kay said. "But when we found Sun City Anthem, we fell in love with the community. "In 1994 we sold our home in California and became telecommunications consultants. Since then, we have worked in Seoul, Korea, Chicago and Budapest, Hungary. When we sold our home, we put everything in storage, so it's nice to finally settle down again." Settling down for Kay includes swimming about 2,000 yards per day, or 80 laps, at Anthem Center. "I swim every morning and am pretty much a swimmer who does all four strokes: the backstroke, breast stroke, freestyle and butterfly," she said. "I don't just get in the pool and do monotonous laps; I do a mix of strokes and kicking." Kay's techniques are so impressive that other swimmers have asked her advice for their own exercise routines. "I have been giving special lessons to a woman that works out in the pool," she said. "It is fun for me to share something I enjoy and I like being able to help people." Del Webb Corp. is developing Sun City Anthem within its Anthem master plan in Henderson. Plans include a 55-acre city park, fire station, middle school, library and commercial retail center. Another amenity is The Revere golf course. The community offers 15 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more customizing opportunities through its Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $120,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to the entrance of the master-planned community. Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
