Ballroom dancers remain active in Sun City
Sun City Anthem danced into the hearts of Bill and Alisa O'Brien this summer. "This is our second Del Webb home," said Bill O'Brien, a retired manager in the train industry and dancing enthusiast. "We owned a home in Roseville, Calif., but decided to change to the Nevada lifestyle." Alisa O'Brien, a gemologist who loves ballroom dancing, has won awards in Latin dances, while her husband favors East Coast Swing. "Dancing is great exercise. And it's a wonderful way of expressing your creativity," she said. While ballroom dancing is one of their main passions, the O'Briens have also been active in competitive softball, bocci ball, and entertaining and socializing at the age-qualified community in Henderson. Bill O'Brien has also been busy helping to organize the community's Softball Club. "We have 30 members now and looking for more," he said. "There are so many things to do here that I like. And plenty of variety for everyone, with an assortment of clubs and activities." The O'Briens also work out at the Anthem Center gym every week. The 75,000-square-foot recreational facility offers outdoor and indoor swimming pools, walking tracks, exercise equipment, and social and recreational opportunities for residents. Also housed at the center is Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. "We had a Del Webb sponsored World Championship Senior Softball Tournament in Las Vegas recently, so I hosted about 10 couples at Trumpets Restaurant," Bill O'Brien said. "We toured the models and several couples were immediately interested." The couple was impressed by the open design of their Colonial home. Seventeen models are available, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key Program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
