Residents entertain at Sun City Anthem

Laura and Casey Jones never imagined how peaceful life at Del Webb Corp.'s Sun City Anthem in Henderson would be before purchasing a house there nearly a year ago. Now, they take every opportunity to entertain and share what they call "our little corner of the desert."

The couple, who moved to the valley from Monterey, Calif., in 1993, discovered the age-qualified community by chance.

"We were visiting friends in another subdivision in Henderson when I missed a turn and ended up in Sun City Anthem," said Casey Jones, a commercial contractor whose company's latest project is Anthem Shopping Center at Eastern Avenue and Grand Hills Drive, which is scheduled to open late this year. "So we figured as long as we were here we'd check out the models. We fell in love with the Arlington and that was that."

The model's open floor plan appealed to the couple.

"It's so open you can feel like you're outside and still be indoors," Jones said.

With six children and four grandchildren who occasionally visit, they also like the home's extended Nevada room as well as having an owner bedroom on one end of the house and two bedrooms and two baths on the other side.

"It fits our needs perfectly," Laura Jones said. "And the view of the mountains and distant lights from the valley are breathtaking."

The couple also enjoys Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is located in Anthem Center and open to the public. The 75,000-square-foot facility offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents.

"We show Anthem Center off every chance we get. I'm impressed with the amount of classes they offer," Laura Jones said.

The couple also enjoys the community's 18-hole championship golf course.

"The Revere at Anthem is a spectacular course," she said. "I played in a golf tournament there and everybody enjoyed it. They have a great staff, too."

Seventeen models are offered at the community, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway.

The model home complex is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
