Summerlin college sets open house
Summerlin's first private college, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas, will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its 60,000-square-foot school. Guests will be invited to tour the facility; meet instructors, administrators and students; and enjoy refreshments. The culinary arts institute, which has Parisian roots dating back to 1895, houses various production and instructional kitchens with multimedia capabilities, lecture classrooms, a library, bookstore and administrative offices. A 10,000-square-foot fine dining restaurant with seating for 125 will open in the spring. Its European design features dramatic color schemes and style not seen in traditional school facilities. "Le Cordon Bleu's culturally influenced European design stands as a hallmark to its origin as a small French culinary school," president Jennifer White said. "The school is an international culinary training institute with a renowned reputation. The early success of the Las Vegas location is further evidence of the school's growing popularity for serious students of the culinary arts." Both class sessions at the college, which opened in July, are full. New sessions begin every six weeks, allowing for continuous enrollment. "Our enrollment figures have consistently surpassed expectations," White said, noting that the Summerlin location is an ideal setting for the school. "We considered several valley locations. But, the positive recognition and prestige of the Summerlin community, along with the convenient beltway and parkway access, made it an easy choice for us." Le Cordon Bleu signed a 13-year build-to-suit lease with The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, in February 2003. "Of course we are thrilled to have Le Cordon Bleu in the community," said Larry Brocato, executive vice president of Hughes Corp. "The school further enhances the cultural and educational offerings of the community, two fundamental elements that contribute to the overall Summerlin experience." Located along the valley's western rim, Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. It is home to eight golf courses, 107 parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities and business parks. Nearly 120 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, which are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s.
