Lied Institute to honor Del Webb

The Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will present its fourth annual Lieder Award to Del Webb during a reception and dinner at the MGM Grand on Nov. 1.

Debra March, executive director of the institute, said the honor is much deserved.

"As one of the most successful home builders in the U.S., and a leader in active-adult lifestyle communities, its geographic presence in the Southern Nevada home-building industry is unparalleled," March said.

Chris Haines, president of Del Webb's Nevada communities, will accept the award.

"We are extremely pleased to have been named by the Lied Institute for this very prestigious award. Del Webb's vision for Southern Nevada began with his first project in 1934, and the foundation he set has allowed our company to achieve success here for over sixty years," he said.

Del Webb has sold nearly 80,000 homes in the adult market, most under the company's Sun City brand. Included locally in that count are Sun City Summerlin (1986), Sun City MacDonald Ranch (1996), Sun City Anthem (1998), Sun City Aliante (2002), and Solera at Anthem (2003). Sun City Anthem and Solera at Anthem are located in Del Webb's flagship master-planned community in Henderson, which also features the developer's first country club in Southern Nevada, Anthem Country Club, as well as two multigenerational neighborhoods. In 2001, Del Webb Corp. entered into an alliance with American Nevada Co. to form North Valley Enterprises, which is developing Aliante in North Las Vegas.

Also in 2001, Pulte Homes merged with Del Webb. Combined, the two companies form the nation's largest home builder for conventional housing and age-qualified housing.

The Lied Institute supports courses in the university's business college that lead to degrees in real estate. It also offers scholarships, internships, continuing education, the Commercial Real Estate Certification Program, and the Certified Graduate Builder Program.
