Summerlin's myriad amenities appeals to family

Lynne Hunter, who has lived in Las Vegas since 1969, considers herself a small-town girl. That's why she, her husband, Rob, and their children, Jennifer, 25, and Bobby, 20, are comfortable in the Summerlin master-planned community.

"Before Summerlin was built, there was considerable anticipation for what we all expected would be a great community," she said. "During Summerlin's infancy, I rode my bike through the newly paved streets, contemplating the comforts of life here. And we have not been disappointed.

"My kids were 14 and 9 when we moved to Summerlin," she said. "They have grown up with soccer leagues, Little League baseball, tennis and golf. They have enjoyed good schools, friends and community activities. They visited the library, attended cultural events and participated in a myriad of sporting events. And nearly every day, we enjoy walking Summerlin's trails and parks."

The community continues to play a key role in the family's life and recently was the site of Jennifer's wedding.

"Jennifer and her new husband, Scott (Moss), were adamant about staying in Summerlin. They look forward to raising their future family in this ... community," Hunter said.

Bobby, who is attending the University of Nevada, Reno, looks forward to returning to the community when he completes his education.

"While he loves life in Reno, Bobby's a Summerlin boy through and through," Hunter said.

Although Las Vegas has changed since she moved here, Hunter said "Summerlin has made this small-town girl retain that small-town feel with all the big-city thrills."

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin ranked as the country's best-selling master-planned community for much of the last decade, according to independent surveys. Located along the valley's western rim, it is home to parks, trails, houses of worship, shopping and business centers, medical facilities and cultural facilities.

Nearly 120 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, which are priced from the mid-$300,000s to more than $2 million. Custom-home sites are priced from the $500,000s.

Monthly rent for apartments start from the mid-$800s.
