Buyers show loyalty to U.S. Home
The first buyers to purchase a home at Aberdeen, a neighborhood within the Southern Highlands community in the southwestern Las Vegas Valley, were already familiar with the builder, U.S. Home. Jim and Natalie Ford previously purchased a home within the builder's Los Prados golf course community. "We love U.S. Home," Natalie Ford said. "They have the best designers ever. They use their heads and design creatively. Every model we have seen shows the same thought and care ... When we decided to move, after living in a U.S. Home for eight years, what we definitely wanted was another U.S. Home." Family members who live in Henderson and Southern California encouraged the couple to buy a home in the southern part of the valley. "We will shave 45 minutes of driving time off our trips to California by living at Aberdeen," said Jim Ford, a computer systems consultant. "It also puts us closer to the airport, which saves me commuting time on business trips." The Fords chose the single-story Brentwood plan, a 3,070-square-foot home with four bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and a three-car garage. "The floor plan is so open, the main living areas are ... perfect for entertaining family and friends," Natalie Ford said. The Brentwood, which is also available in a 2,550-square-foot design, features vaulted ceilings, a covered entry and patio, family room with raised-hearth or optional three-sided fireplace, and media niche. The island kitchen has a breakfast bar, pantry, nook and an optional desk. Its owner suite is separated from the other bedrooms by the main living areas and offers a walk-in closet, dual cultured-marble vanities, a separate tub and shower, and a linen closet. Three additional floor plans are available at the guard-gated neighborhood, where homes are highlighted by architectural arches, carriage lights, and exterior design options that include stone and brick accents. Interiors provide granite counter tops; ceramic-tile flooring at entry; and kitchens with upgraded appliances, oak cabinetry and gas cook tops. The two-story Thousand Oaks plan measures from 3,229 to 3,400 square feet with five bedrooms. The Beverly Hills can be built with 3,558 to 3,800 square feet and as many as seven bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. With 3,880 to 4,200 square feet, the San Clemente also offers seven bedrooms. According to builder executive Vicki Zoot, more a dozen homes have already been sold at the neighborhood, where prices start from the $260,000s. Southern Highlands features an 18-hole golf course, and parks and walking trails are planned. To visit, take Interstate 15 to Blue Diamond Road then head west to Decatur Boulevard. Proceed south to Shinnecock Hills, turn right and follow the signs. Model homes are under construction at the site, where a sales office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when it opens at 11 a.m. U.S. Home also has a Custom Residential division.
