Sun City Anthem couple touts benefits of active lifestyle
There's no end to the recreational opportunities in a Del Webb community, according to Ann Matthei, a resident of Sun City Anthem. Matthei and her husband, Don, recently moved from Columbus, Ohio, to the age-qualified community in Henderson. "Athletics is a way of life at Del Webb," Ann Matthei, secretary of the community's Bocce Club, said recently. "We are in the outdoor pool every day, and I work out in the fitness center three times a week." Don Matthei plays tennis and is a member of the community's tennis league. "When I'm not playing billiards, you can usually find me on the tennis court," he said. Special interest clubs are also a way of life at the community, according to Ann Matthei, who helped organize the Women's Club. "It's a great way to get acquainted with your neighbors," she said. "Everyone here is so friendly; we meet new people almost every day. When I go to the pool, if I see someone I don't know, I walk up and introduce myself. Some people are here just checking out the area, and I make it a point to welcome newcomers and tell them about the luxuries of living in Sun City Anthem. "We love living in Nevada. Columbus is humid and gray most of the time, (but) this area is just the opposite with 360 sunny days a year." Central to the community is the 75,000-square-foot Anthem Center, where a variety of fitness, social and recreational opportunities are available to residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. There are 17 models available, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to the entrance to Anthem. The models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
