Canyon Pointe expands retail options
As the Summerlin master-planned community has grown, so have the retail offerings within it. Today, Summerlin is home to 13 retail centers of varying sizes. Additional centers are under development. The community has proved popular for retailers owing to its strong consumer demographics and neighborhood-style retail centers, according to Jim Harris, an executive with the community's developer, The Howard Hughes Corp. "Summerlin's neighborhood shopping centers are in close proximity to residential development, offering abundant and convenient shopping opportunities to the residents." Canyon Pointe, a 62-acre retail center with a planned 600,000 square feet of retail space and 77,500 square feet of small store space, is one of the newest centers taking shape in the community. The center, which borders Interstate 215 at Charleston Boulevard, is home to national retailers such as Costco, Best Buy, Borders, Office Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Marshall's. Wells Fargo Bank and Burger King are also in the center. Future tenants include Olive Garden, Agave Mexican Restaurant, Red Lobster, BJ's Brewery and Terrible Herbst. "Convenient freeway access and the center's strong retailers have made Canyon Pointe one of the community's most popular shopping centers," Harris said. "The combination of nationally recognized names and small, neighborhood-oriented boutiques will eventually make it a one-stop shopping center." Local development company Mark L. Fine & Associates and partner Scott Godino are developing about 25,000 square feet of small store space within the center, something Harris believes balances out the property. "In-line development creates a place for the neighborhood coffee shop," he said. "It's often the smaller shops that give large retail centers their personality." Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. The community is home to eight golf courses, 107 neighborhood and village parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 120 model homes. Homes start from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites are priced from the $500,000s to more than $1 million. Predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the $800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/realestate and click on the Summerlin link.
