Pardee celebrates anniversary with 50-hour home

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in Southern Nevada, Pardee Homes will build a house in 50 hours, starting Sept. 30 and ending Oct. 4.

The builder will also donate 50 $1,000 scholarships to the Clark County Public Education Foundation.

"That's one scholarship for every hour the house is being built," said Klif Andrews, vice president of community development for Pardee. "We can't think of a better way to mark our progress."

More than 600 Pardee personnel and affiliates will build the home in the community of Eldorado, located in North Las Vegas. The two-story home, Talavera Plan 3A, features four bedrooms, three baths, a two-car garage and measures 2,046 square feet. The Eldorado Highlands model park contains a similar home.

The building will take place over five 10-hour days, and the public is invited. A building inspector will be on-hand to review construction.

Pardee and the Education Foundation are working on establishing scholarship criteria, and the Foundation is meeting with Clark County School District in an attempt to bring more than 500 students to the site to view the process.

Sam Rashkin, head of the Environmental Protection Agency's "Energy Star for Homes" program, also will visit, according to Andrews.

The community includes two parks, a fire station and elementary school.

To visit, take Craig Road to Camino al Norte and head north. The sales center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when they open at 11 a.m.
