Work begins on first Aliante school

Grading has begun on Theron H. and Naomi G. Goynes Elementary School, the first academic facility within the Aliante master-planned community in North Las Vegas.

Construction of the 65,584-square-foot school has currently commenced, with completion anticipated for spring 2005, according to Brian Chinn, a designer with JMA Architecture Studios, who said the design conforms to the district's 1998 prototype.

Located at Aviary Way and Deer Springs Way, the school will be named for two career educators with a combined 63 years in the Clark County School District. In addition, Theron Goynes served for 20 years on the North Las Vegas City Council and is a member of the Regional Transportation Commission.

Adjacent to the school a 10-acre city park with basketball courts, two ball fields that will be shared with the school, a playground and several picnic areas is set for completion in October 2004.

Aliante is a development of North Valley Enterprises, an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Del Webb. Encompassing more than 1,900 acres, the community consists of an all-ages village and an age-qualified village, Sun City Aliante. Combined, they will comprise 7,500 homes at buildout.

Home prices start from the $170,000s to the $700,000s.

Home builders include: Astoria Homes, Del Webb, D.R. Horton, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes and US Home.

About one-fourth of the community's acreage is designated for recreational and public purposes including the Aliante Golf Club, Nature Discovery Park, two city parks, more than 20 miles of lighted concrete trails and linear parks, as well as an arroyo. Other plans include an additional elementary school and a middle school.

A fire station opened in April.

About 100 acres are allocated for commercial development, including a planned 40-acre gaming hotel.

An information center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Take I-215 east to the Aliante Parkway exit, then go south.
