Aliante, North Las Vegas to host screening of `Lion King' at park

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

Hundreds of movie-goers are expected at Nature Discovery Park in Aliante tonight for the outdoor presentation of the Disney animated classic "The Lion King."

There is no charge to attend and free hot dogs, popcorn and beverages will be provided, while supplies last. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs, according to Kimiko Peterson, community marketing manager.

"This is our second Movie Madness event, and we thought `The Lion King' would harmonize nicely with the jungle-themed play areas of Nature Discovery Park," Peterson said. "Cooler weather is predicted, which will make it a perfect evening for families to come to Aliante and enjoy a movie under the stars."

The film is presented in conjunction with the North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department. Festivities are planned from 7 to 10 p.m., with the movie shown at sundown.

The story is about a young lion prince in Africa whose uncle, Scar, is second in line to the throne. Scar plots with hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba and make himself king. When King Mufasa is killed, Scar convinces Simba that he was at fault. Simba's feelings of guilt lead him to flee the kingdom. After years of exile, Simba is discovered by a member of his former pride, who persuades him to come home and claim his place on the throne.

To reach the park, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Take I-215 east to the Aliante Parkway exit and then go south.

Aliante is a development of North Valley Enterprises, an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Del Webb. Encompassing 1,905 acres, the community comprises all-ages and age-qualified villages, which will have as many as 7,500 homes.

Astoria Homes, Del Webb, D.R. Horton, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes and US Home are building homes in the all-ages village, while the age-qualified Sun City Aliante is a development of Del Webb.

Home prices start from the $170,000s to the $700,000s.

Nearly one-fourth of the community's acreage is designated for recreational and public purposes, including the municipal Aliante Golf Club, three city parks, more than 20 miles of lighted trails, and an arroyo.

Plans for the community also call for three schools and about 100 acres of commercial development, including shopping and business centers and a 40-acre resort with gaming.

An information center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
