Pardee committed to Energy Star, LivingSmart programs
In March 2002, Pardee Homes became the first multiregional builder to make a companywide commitment to the Energy Star program. Today, 18 months later, the company continues to build upon its commitment and has received a few national honors along the way. "Pardee Homes is very pleased to include Energy Star as part of our overall value commitment," said Klif Andrews, vice president of community development for Pardee in Southern Nevada. "We are proud to be associated with a new generation of homes that are better for homeowners and the planet." Every Energy Star home keeps 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air each year. In 2001 alone, the Energy Star program helped Americans save enough energy to power 10 million homes and reduce the air pollution equivalent to taking 12 million cars off the road -- all while saving consumers $6 billion, according to the EPA. Also this year, Pardee was one of nine builders nationwide to win top honors in the Energy Value Housing Awards, which recognize companies that achieve success while respecting the environment. Homes labeled Energy Star incorporate energy savings into the design, using at least 30 percent less energy for cooling, heating and water heating than standard homes. Benefits include reduced utility bills, and healthier indoor air through special foams, tapes and other tight construction details that help restrict dust, pollen, moisture, mold and carbon monoxide from entering homes. Proper ventilation also protects against the buildup of humidity and unhealthy air. "Pardee is continuously expanding its efforts to build new homes that satisfy lifestyle desires and support earth-friendly strategies," said Joyce Mason, Pardee's vice president of marketing. Pardee's LivingSmart program allows buyers to choose from special options and features, which include solar electricity, fluorescent lighting, tankless water heaters, low VOC paint and central vacuum systems. Water-efficient landscaping also is part of the program, and is offered at the builder's Vista Verde community in northwest Las Vegas. Pardee, which has 13 active new-home neighborhoods valleywide, has built homes for more than 25,000 families in Southern Nevada since 1952.
