Need for skilled workers leads to pay increases
As the construction industry continues to expand in Las Vegas, employers say it is increasingly difficult to find quality workers, according to Joy Fox, division manager at Contractors and Builders Personnel, a full-time and temporary staffing firm.
"Applications (for contractor's licenses) continue to flow consistently into the Las Vegas area," Fox said. "This growth has kept the demand for skilled tradespeople high and salaries competitive. In addition to salary increases, companies are taking a closer look at their overall compensation packages, which may result in lower starting salaries, but they are holding on to employees longer."
The agency's 1999 Salary Survey reflects these trends with employers reporting plans to increase salaries and higher reported salaries, especially in the trades and labor categories.
Information for the survey was compiled by the personnel agency last April and features compensation information from 45 companies about 25 job titles in the industry.
