Summerlin hosts Stroller Roll
The Howard Hughes Corp. pledged its continued support for Stroller Roll, a one-mile fun walk to benefit Family to Family Connection's New Baby Center on West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas. Organizers of the walk, scheduled for 9 a.m. next Saturday at The Trails Park in Summerlin, encourage parents to bring their children, toddlers and babies for a scenic walk through the master-planned community. It is the fourth year the company, which is the developer of Summerlin, has underwritten the event. "The Howard Hughes Corp. is committed to supporting organizations that encourage healthy family living," said Tom Warden, vice president of community and government relations for the company. "Family to Family Connection's mission to strengthen new families is consistent with the company's philanthropic goals, so we are pleased to partner with the organization in this event." The nonprofit organization offers classes, library resources, pediatrician question-and-answer meetings, home visits and other services for parents and their babies. Dianne Farkas, manager of the local agency, said more than 700 valley residents participate in the various monthly classes, which focus on nutrition, development, parenting and safety. Several specialized classes cover topics such as baby sign language and early intervention service for children diagnosed with disabilities. Participants in the fun walk may take part in a stroller decorating contest at 8:30 a.m., a visit by Summerlin Sam, music, games and refreshments. Preregistration is set from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at The Trails Community Center, 1910 Spring Gate Lane. Registration forms are available at Mountain View Hospital, community centers throughout Summerlin, and Family to Family Connection. At the event, registration begins at 8 a.m. Individual registration is $15; individual plus a baby is $20. Late registration costs an additional $5. Registration includes a T-shirt, drawing entry and information packet.
