Summerlin developer touts family amenities at The Gardens Park

Summerlin's newest park in The Gardens village is open and features amenities designed to appeal to all ages, according to the developer, The Howard Hughes Corp.

The 20-acre, oval-shaped park contains the community's first lighted skateboard and roller hockey rink, as well as a variety of gardens clustered around fountains in English garden-style.

"The Gardens Park is the crowning jewel of The Gardens village," Hughes Corp. executive Stew Gibbons said. "We envisioned it as a social and recreational hub for family, friends and neighbors ... the park is heavily used by surrounding residents."

The park's east end consists of benches, light fixtures, and areas for such activities as bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. The west end includes the skateboard area, tennis courts and basketball courts. A community center is situated at the park's center.

A recent survey of The Gardens village residents, conducted by Robert Charles Lesser & Co., reveals that the park was a key selling point. Residents also believe the village's floor plans, which include a "garden room" design, reflect the theme of the village.

Five neighborhoods in the village are selling homes: Garden Glen, Wisteria Homes, Glenleigh Gardens, Chelsea Gardens and Rosemont. Two neighborhoods, Ivy Glen and Country Gardens, are already sold out.

Homes range from the mid-$100,000s to the low $300,000s and measure between 1,539 to 3,811 square feet.

Eventually, the 410-acre village will also include retail and employment centers, as well as a house of worship and nine single- and multi-family neighborhoods. It is already home to a school.

Summerlin aligns the western edge of the valley, and is unfolding in villages, each with a major park or golf course.

Amenities include more than 90 completed miles of trails; two Tournament Players Club golf courses, a Bear's Best Las Vegas, course and five others; 16 public and private schools; houses of worship; cultural facilities; shopping and medical centers; and business parks.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condos are priced from under $100,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-quarter acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to several million dollars. Nearly 130 model homes are open.

To visit the community's home finding center, take Sahara Avenue west, past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara.

The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
