Art director finds beauty in Anthem
Barbara Bloemink made a life-changing decision that brought her to the Las Vegas Valley from New York when she became managing director at the new Guggenheim Las Vegas and the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum on the Strip. After searching for a home throughout the valley, she and her husband, David Tussey, chose Del Webb Corp.'s Anthem Country Club in Henderson for its sense of community and amenities. "When we toured other communities we just saw a bunch of houses, but when we entered Anthem Country Club, we immediately felt part of something bigger -- a beautifully planned community with plenty of open space and awesome amenities to socialize with your neighbors and friends," Tussey, an information technology consultant, said. "The icing on the cake was visiting the clubhouse and athletic club and experiencing the member events. We felt welcomed right away." The couple chose the Sonata floor plan with a casita. The home was featured in the "Home of the Month" program, which highlights inventory homes available for occupancy with incentives such as upgraded design features and discounts. "Choosing the Home of the Month was not only a great value with all the incentives we received, but was also convenient. With my position at the museum, I wanted to have a home to live in right away and our sales associate made that possible without a lot of hassle," Bloemink said. Twenty floor plans in four series of homes are offered at the community, ranging from 1,275 to 5,800 square feet and priced from the $200,000s to more than $1 million. Homes feature classic European and American craftsmen styles and offer more than 50 architectural variations, including second stories, basements and casitas. They include a structured-wiring package which increases the quality and quantity of information received or transmitted through the telephone, computer and television. Buyers may choose floor and window coverings, counter tops, cabinets, interior colors, light fixtures, and appliances at the builder's design studio. Custom-home site neighborhoods are also available and provide gated entrances within the guard-gated community. Among the community amenities is an athletic club and salon, which offers a fitness area, several pools, a whirlpool, sand volleyball and basketball courts, aerobics classes, personal trainers, a day-care facility, locker rooms, and a poolside café. The full-service salon and spa offers hair, nail, massage therapy and facial services. A clubhouse features fine dining, a casual grill, meeting rooms, offices, a golf shop, and golf locker rooms with lounges. Concierge and valet services are also offered. A private 7,300-yard, par-72 championship golf course was designed by PGA golfer Hale Irwin and architect Keith Foster. Equity and executive (non-resident) memberships are available. Residents may also attend a variety of member events ranging from wine tastings to mountain hikes. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. The model homes are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
