Summerlin prepares to stroll 'n' roll
Summerlin will host Stroller Roll, a fun walk to benefit Family to Family Connection's Northwest Las Vegas New Baby Center, at The Trails Park. Scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, the event features a one-mile walk through the park for parents and their children. In addition, the festivities will include a stroller decorating contest at 8:30 a.m., visits by Summerlin Sam, music, games and refreshments. Advance registration will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at The Trails Community Center, 1910 Spring Gate Lane. In addition, registration forms are available at Babies R Us, Mountain View Hospital, The Gardens Community Center, The Willows Community Center, The Trails Community Center, and Family to Family Connection at 6114 W. Charleston Blvd. Same-day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at the park. Individual registration is $15, an individual plus a baby is $20, and each additional family member is $10. Late registration is an additional $5. Registration includes a T-shirt, entry in a drawing, and an information packet. Family to Family Connection is a nonprofit organization. Its New Baby Center on West Charleston Boulevard offers classes, library resources, pediatrician question-and-answer meetings, home visits and other services for parents and their infants up to 12 months old in the northwest area of Las Vegas. The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the master-planned community, is underwriting Stroller Roll. Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for nine of the past 10 years, according to surveys by Robert Charles Lesser & Co. Situated along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, the community is being developed in villages. It is home to eight golf courses, more than 100 parks, nearly 105 miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $1.5 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s. To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive and turn north. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara Avenue and head east to Town Center. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
