Pardee selects purchaser for 50-Hour HouseSPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
Kathleen Browning felt her luck was on the upswing. A day before the drawing to determine the purchaser of Pardee Homes' 50-Hour House, a home that was recently completed at the Talavera neighborhood, Browning won two slot jackpots at a casino. Last Saturday, her luck continued when her name was drawn from among 30 others to purchase the home in North Las Vegas. "I want the home, I want the home," said Browning when her name was drawn from a house-shaped cookie jar in the living room of the house. Browning promptly wrote her deposit check and plans to move into the home with her daughter and son-in-law in the near future. "I came out to see the house while it was under construction and then again to tour the house once it was finished. I had a strange feeling that I would win the drawing and this is the first time I've ever won a drawing," she said. Two finalists were also drawn: Jason Sorenson and Alan Denning. Sorenson received a certificate for $5,000 in options and Denning a certificate for $2,500 in options to be used toward the purchase of a new Pardee home within the next six months. Both said they plan to take advantage of the certificates. All other prequalified entrants who were present for the Oct. 19 drawing received a certificate for $500 in options. About 40 people prequalified for the drawing and were required to check-in before 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 19. Randy Myers, senior vice president of construction for the builder, drew the winning names. The home is a Talavera Plan 3A, a two-story floor plan measuring 2,046 square feet with four bedrooms, three baths and a two-car garage. The home features a living room, family room, dining room, island kitchen, downstairs bedroom and bath, upstairs laundry room, and a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and master bath. Additional features include landscaping in the front and back yards, a stainless-steel appliance package, Corian counter tops, and upgraded flooring. While independently appraised at $218,000, Pardee sold the house for $166,550, including more than $50,000 in options and upgrades for free. The home was built over five 10-hour days during the week of Sept. 30 through Oct. 4 in celebration of Pardee's 50th year in Las Vegas. In conjunction with building the 50-Hour House, Pardee donated $50,000 to the Clark County Public Education Foundation. The donation will be used to create 50 $1,000 scholarships for Clark Country students pursuing higher education in Southern Nevada. More than 500 local pupils toured the house site during the first two days of construction to learn more about new home construction and the environmental benefits of Energy Star homes. Sam Rashkin, national director of the EPA's Energy Star for Homes program, gave a presentation. Pardee has made a companywide commitment to the Energy Star program, which certifies that a house is at least 30 percent more energy efficient than homes built to standard federal building codes, according to Rashkin. The company has built more than 25,000 homes in Southern Nevada over the past 50 years. It has 13 neighborhoods open for sales in all parts of the Las Vegas Valley. Models for Talavera are open in the Eldorado Highlands model park across from the 23-acre Seastrand Park. Also open are eight models for the Fontana and Mandevilla neighborhoods. Eldorado includes an elementary school, two parks and a fire station. To visit, take Craig Road to Camino al Norte, then go north into the community. The sales office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when it opens at 11 a.m.
