Rolladens installed on high rises
Residents of several high-rise condominium complexes in the Las Vegas Valley have installed Rolladen Rolling Shutters to help protect against problems that come with desert living such as intense sun, wind and dust. About 30 residents of Regency Towers have installed the shutters. "The people there were among our first customers," company owner Fran Minnozzi said. "The building presents its own challenges for the installation of shutters, but the people there love the product as soon as it is installed. "All the guys have to wear safety belts. It's a solid concrete building and drilling into it is a big challenge unlike a stucco building. The end result is that the homeowner wins and we love to be a part of that equation." The towers face east and west. "All of the windows at Regency Towers are 14 feet wide and 7 feet high. That's a massive area of glass. There's nothing like the heat problems a resident can have if they don't have the shutters," Minnozzi said. The shutters are rolling, filled-aluminum slats that can be used to cover doors and windows. They have been available locally since 1984 and have been known to lower power consumption by as much as 64 percent, Minnozzi said. Residents also comment about a reduction in dust. "One lady who lives there said she always had to cover her furniture when she left home for an extended period. The shutters eliminated the problem," Minnozzi said. Through the month of November, the company is offering a free remote control system with each purchase. The showroom is located at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday.
