Rolladen rolling shutters become welcome addition to condominium

Three years ago, Paul and Mary Ann Beam had two Rolladen rolling shutters installed on their 1,000-square-foot condominium in the southeastern valley. They are so pleased with their shutters that they are having one more installed on the west side of their residence.

The couple said they rely on the shutters for comfort.

"Slowly but surely, we're going to have Rolladens on the whole house," Paul Beam said. "The older you get, the more they just provide that security. You can leave them in the vented position with the windows open."

The Beams first used solar screens, but removed them in favor of the shutters, which are rolling, filled-aluminum slats that can be operated manually, electrically or with remote control.

His wife agreed the shutters have been an effective alternative, and has helped reduce their power bill.

"I love the safety and the fact that they keep the heat out," she said. "Also, they keep the dust out. I have tremendous allergies, so that's a big bonus we never counted on. They are a little bit expensive, but they sure pay for themselves.

"There are so many benefits that we didn't even think about. In fact, it keeps the cold out in the wintertime, too."

The Beams said they received efficient service from Rolladen.

"We had one service call and Rolladen showed up right away to take care of everything. There was no charge and they checked the other shutter at the same time. I think that was real integrity," Mary Ann Beam said.

Throughout October, the company will provide a free upgrade to motor-driven shutters with every purchase.

The local franchise opened in 1984; Frances Minnozzi is the owner.

The company showroom, located at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
