Summerlin's activities appeal to family

Because of Summerlin's many family activities, Todd and Jill Pike said they wouldn't consider living anywhere else. After leaving Las Vegas for work-related reasons, the Chicago natives returned to the master-planned community and purchased a home for themselves and their two children, Taylor, 7, and Chandler, 6.

"We have lived in other cities where folks have a lot of family around. In Las Vegas, where most people are from somewhere else, there's a real opportunity to connect with people of similar interests. And in Summerlin, where there are lots of young families and tons of activities and events planned by the community association, we have made many good friends who have become our family," Jill Pike said.

Snow Day, Summerlin Sam's Birthday Party, summer concerts and the Fourth of July festivities rank as Pike family favorites, she said.

"Thanks to Summerlin, our calendar is full of fun things to do with the kids and we're making such great family memories. We couldn't imagine living anywhere else," she said.

Sports are another important part of their lives. Todd Pike has coached youth soccer for two years and supports Chandler's Summerlin Little League baseball team. In fact, the two are featured in the community's advertising campaign and were photographed at The Trails baseball park where Chandler's team won the rookie division title this year.

"Because Todd and Chandler were part of the ad campaign, our family got to ride on the Summerlin float in the Fourth of July parade. That was not only an honor, it was a blast. It's something we won't ever forget," Jill Pike said.

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for nine of the past 10 years, according to independent surveys by Robert Charles Lesser & Co.

Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is home to eight golf courses, more than 100 parks, nearly 105 miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites ranging from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and custom homes are priced from $1.5 million.

Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s.

To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive and turn north. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara Avenue and head east to Town Center. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
