Lied honors Hughes for contributions
The Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will present its third annual Lieder Award to The Howard Hughes Corp. during a reception and dinner at The Bellagio Hotel on Nov. 16. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. According to Debra March, the Institute's executive director, Hughes Corp. is being singled out for its contribution to real estate development in Southern Nevada, including the residential, office, industrial and retail markets. "We are especially pleased to be honored by the Lied Institute, which offers academic and practical preparation for our next generation of real estate leaders," said Dan Van Epp, president of Hughes Corp., who will accept the award. An affiliate of The Rouse Co., Hughes Corp.'s major project, Summerlin, has been ranked as America's best-selling master-planned community for nine of the past 10 years. Summerlin has 22,500 acres and is home to more than 60,000 residents; it will have more than 160,000 residents when completed. Summerlin Centre, an urban village that will include residential, retail, entertainment, recreation, culture and resort components, is under development and will be among company's most significant projects within the community. Another of the corporation's developments is Hughes Center, a 115-acre, mixed-use business center located in central Las Vegas. The center offers 2 million square feet of office space, a hotel, restaurants and apartments; it is the site for more than 100 firms. The Lied Institute supports courses in the university's business college that lead to bachelor's degrees in real estate. It also offers scholarships, internships, continuing education, the Commercial Real Estate Certification Program, and the Certified Graduate Builder Program.
