DragonRidge key component in sales
One of the draws at the guard-gated MacDonald Highlands is the private DragonRidge Country Club, where fairways, greens and tee boxes have been sculpted into the McCullough Mountains by designers Jay Moorish and David Druzisky. Named after a rocky ridge and known to residents as the "Sleeping Dragon," this 18-hole championship golf course utilizes elevation changes throughout, like the community itself, according to Rich MacDonald, president of MacDonald Cos. "Fabulous views from MacDonald Highlands are part of the reason for brisk sales," MacDonald said. "DragonRidge itself is the other part. Prospective buyers are finding that each hole of DragonRidge is a surprise. The course is exciting to play no matter the skill level." He said the custom-home sites along DragonRidge are as diversified as the golf course. Buyers are choosing flat lots, multilevel pads and hillside acreage that provide views of the course, mountains and city. Golf course home sites are priced from $309,000. The course's 18th hole will be the site for the 2004 Street of Dreams event, where builders are taking advantage of the topography and views in their designs. The show's home sites range from one-half acre to 2 acres, and the estates will measure from 10,000 to 25,000 square feet. DragonRidge is open to the public on a limit basis until it reaches membership capacity. A temporary clubhouse is open and tee times are available. A permanent clubhouse is under construction and scheduled for completion in December. It will include a gourmet dining room, a mixed grill and lounge, fitness facility, swimming pool and pro shop. Other community amenities include three neighborhood parks that will encompass about 10 acres and feature tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; play areas; and picnic facilities. Also planned are five miles of walking trails that will provide access to nature trails that lead into the mountains. The community's entrance is located at the intersection of Valle Verde Drive and Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. Its information center is located at 1700 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Suite 100. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive, turn south, and proceed to Horizon Ridge Parkway. The sales office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
