Nevadans appreciate Summerlin
Although Summerlin didn't necessarily figure in Mary Ann and Lyle Rivera's plans, the native Nevadans are ecstatic about their decision to move to the master-planned community. "We consider Summerlin the Scottsdale (Ariz.) of Las Vegas. Lyle has always wanted to live close to the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas, and The Ridges in Summerlin is a true sanctuary," Mary Ann Rivera said. Rivera, a long-time educator who is featured in the community's new advertising campaign laden with shopping bags, ranks its retail offerings high on her list of favorite amenities. "From quality grocery stores to interesting and one-of-a-kind boutiques, Summerlin's got it all," Rivera said. The couple also enjoy the sense of community, especially at their Topaz Ridge neighborhood. "We lived in the center of Las Vegas close, to family and friends for decades. With immediate access to family and friends, we've never had to really extend ourselves," Rivera said. "When we moved to Summerlin, we noticed several of our neighbors were similar in age and shared similar interests, so it has been a natural and fun experience getting to know them. We really look forward to our monthly gatherings. Living here has expanded our circle of friends." "We haven't looked back on our decision to relocate after dozens of years in the same house. We couldn't be happier," added Lyle Rivera, an attorney. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin ranked as the country's best-selling master-planned community for much of the last decade, according to independent surveys. Located along the valley's western edge, it is being developed in villages and is home to parks, more than 100 miles of trails, houses of worship, shopping and business centers, medical and cultural facilities, and nearly 120 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$300,000s to more than $2 million. Custom-home sites are priced from the $500,000s. Monthly rent for apartments starts from the mid-$800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
