MacDonald Highlands' topography varies

MacDonald Highlands, situated in the Henderson foothills, offers challenging topography on which to build a custom home, according to Rich MacDonald, developer of the guard-gated community.

Prospective buyers can choose from a variety of home sites including flat golf course frontage, multilevel pads or hillside acreage with 360-degree views. The community also offers a featured builder program with contractors who specialize in building on unusual terrain, although buyers are free to choose their own builder and architect as well.

"One of the most important decisions a buyer makes is deciding on a builder," MacDonald said. "Our featured builders were chosen for their experience, attention to detail and the quality of craftsmanship."

All are familiar with the design guidelines for the community, which MacDonald describes as "desert elegance." The intent is for the residences to blend into the nearby mountains and golf course.

Many of the builders use elements such as stone accents, extended overhangs, curved walls, courtyards and casitas on the homes they build, according to MacDonald. In addition, several use elements designed to enhance views, such as disappearing walls and floor-to-ceiling glass.

The community features 10 custom-home neighborhoods, each with its own topography and views. The custom lots range from one-quarter acre to 2 1/2 acres and are priced from $220,000 to more than $3.5 million.

At the center of the community is DragonRidge Country Club. Membership is limited, but the private golf course is open to the public for a limited time.

Also featured are three neighborhood parks variously featuring tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as play areas and picnic facilities. Also planned are five miles of fitness trails.

To visit the information center at 1700 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Suite 100, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive and travel south. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
