Gala event: Realtors install new slate of officersSPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
Lee K. Barrett was installed as 2004 president of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors last night during the organization's annual installation gala at JW Marriott. More than 400 people attended. In accepting the gavel from Cathy Whatley, 2003 president of the National Association of Realtors, Barrett said his theme for the year is "Step Into the Now," and encouraged all attendees to listen, learn and lead. "During my term as president, I plan to focus on risk management, affordable housing, and issues that affect our association and the quality of life in Southern Nevada," said Barrett, a Las Vegas native. "I will increase the association's involvement in local and state matters and community projects, while creating leadership training and opportunities for members of the association." Kellie Rubin, 2003 president of the Nevada Association of Realtors, installed the additional new officers. They are: Myrna Kingham, president-elect; Linda Rheinberger, vice president; David Talbot, treasurer; and Gayle Brown Fox, past president. The directors are: J.C. Arens, Honey Borla, Lisa Cooper, Nitsa Filios, Sue Naumann, Tony Pessini, Judye Phebus, Devin Reiss and Mark Stark. In addition, Linda "Red" Wallin is MLS director and Elizabeth Leone is CALV president. The Realtor of the Year award was presented to Joanne Levy by Ronnie Vause. "The selection is made by former recipients of this prestigious award and, during our search, we found that Joanne possesses all of the qualities that we look for in our Realtor of the Year: spirit, civic involvement, local association activity, and professional association and education achievements," Vause said. The following awards were also presented: --Affiliate of the Year: Loni Andal, North American Title Co. --Gene Nebeker Award: Dawn Lane, Century 21 Aadvantage Gold. --Citizen of the Year: Somer Hollingsworth, executive director, Nevada Development Authority. --Ronn Reiss Education Award: Becky Chapin-Jordan, Century 21 Aadvantage Gold. --Builder of the Year: Irwin Molasky. --Hall of Fame: Vince Vassallo, Michael Mack and Harlene Bailey. Irene Vogel is executive vice president of the association, which has about 9,500 members and is an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.
