Residents and community developers gathered Oct. 2 to mark the start of construction on the Southern Highlands fire station. The 10,336-square-foot structure will feature a Tuscany-style design with a bell tower. "The new fire station will be prepared to deliver the best possible community fire safety, firefighting and rescue services, while its exterior design will blend with the beautiful communities of Southern Highlands," said Garry Goett, president of Southern Highlands Development Corp. The planned interior features a three-bay apparatus room, a kitchen, dormitories, captains' rooms, emergency medical services offices, bathrooms, a work-out room, laundry room, patio with a barbecue, and training tower. The new station, part of the Clark County Fire Department, is expected to open by September 2003. It will serve the Southern Highlands community in the southwestern valley.Southern Highlands Golf Club is the most luxurious portion of the Southern Highlands community. Behind its guarded gates are the Estates, a series of home sites located along a private golf course. These half-acre to 2-acre custom lots are priced from $300,000 to more than $1 million. In addition to the 42,000-square-foot Tuscany-style clubhouse, residents have private membership to The Spa at Southern Highlands.
