Buyer grateful for Astoria Homes

Bret White believes music has helped shape his life. The 24-year-old works as the box office supervisor at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, assisting customers and working with band managers of such talent as The Who, Cold Play and Robert Plant.

He has collected autographed electric guitars from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Outside of work and play, he said it was music to his ears to learn about Silverado Place, an Astoria Homes neighborhood in the Silverado Ranch community. He moved into his new home in mid-September.

"When I first saw the Silverado Place models, I could see myself living there and did everything possible to make sure I could buy one of the homes," White said. "It was the only affordable, attractive housing community to me that was in a great location in Las Vegas."

White chose the home because it fit his price range and because he didn't want a condominium. Known as the "upside down" house, the home's kitchen and living room are upstairs, and a second bedroom is downstairs. White, who has a roommate, said the living quarters are ideal for his situation.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity to afford a single-family home.

"The house fits my needs and is exactly what I was looking for," White said.

Homes as large as 1,293 square feet are available.

Prices start from the $110,000s.

Many of the homes feature courtyards and all of the homes qualify as Energy Star homes for their energy-efficient construction.

The neighborhood itself features swimming pools, two playgrounds, an outdoor basketball half-court and covered picnic areas.

To visit, take Interstate 215 to Eastern Avenue, go south to Silverado Ranch Boulevard, drive west to Bermuda Road and follow the signs. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Other subdivisions by the builder are: Ironwood Estates in northwest Las Vegas; Auburn Hills, Canyon Trails and Independence in the southwestern valley; and Villa Villagio in Henderson.
