Federal Fair Housing laws govern handicapped parking
Q: After I purchased my condominium, I became handicapped. I have repeatedly asked the association to designate the parking space closest to my home a handicapped space. I use two canes or a walker and have to pull my groceries with a cart. I can not use my garage as the doorway is too small for me to safely enter with my walker and groceries in tow. The closest handicapped space is at the next building at least 500 yards away, at the other end of my building. My building does not have a handicapped space. Is there any way that I can force them to designate a handicapped space that I can use in my building's parking area? I am going into surgery and may be forced to use a wheelchair. My condition is permanent. They refused to help me.
