Local Realtors support Habitat

The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors has presented a $50,173 check to Habitat for Humanity. The funds were generated from the association's 15th annual golf tournament held in June at Anthem Country Club.

"The generosity of the players and the tournament has gone above and beyond what we ever expected," Susan Mackert, president of Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas, said. "The (association) and all the sponsors are truly making a difference in the lives of people that are less fortunate.

"Habitat for Humanity and its participating families are so grateful for their generosity and all the effort put forth by both (the association) and the tournament sponsors."

Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is a nonprofit organization that builds affordable homes with the help of people donating time, materials and funds to each project. Each home is sold at no profit and with no interest to Las Vegas-area residents who might otherwise be forced to live in substandard housing.

The donation is enough to fund the construction of an entire home, according to Mackert.

"(Habitat) is a worthwhile and rewarding program, and we are proud to support them," Joanne Levy, association president, said.
