MacDonald Highlands takes shapeSPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
After planning MacDonald Highlands for 10 years, developer Rich MacDonald is delighted with how the 1,200-acre custom-home community in Henderson is taking shape. "MacDonald Highlands is about four things: a beautiful golf course, stunning hillside homes, spectacular views of the Las Vegas Valley, and the close proximity of (Interstate 215) to the development," said MacDonald, president of MacDonald Cos. "There are few communities that offer this winning combination." Ten neighborhoods are under development, offering lots with city and mountain views, as well as views of the DragonRidge Country Club, the centerpiece of MacDonald Highlands. Lots within these neighborhoods are priced from $186,000 to more than $3.5 million. Estate homes start at $1.4 million and offer hillside or golf locations. A neighborhood of semicustom homes is being developed by Toll Bros., and additional semicustom homes and luxury condominiums are planned at the community. DragonRidge incorporates the slopes and arroyos of the desert terrain into its design. A permanent clubhouse is expected to open next year with a pro shop, exercise facility, swimming pool, upscale dining and a separate mixed grill and lounge. A temporary clubhouse is open and tee times are available. Ten acres of parks are also planned, and will provide tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; playgrounds; and picnic facilities. Five miles of fitness trails will also be developed. MacDonald Highlands hosted the 2002 Street of Dreams luxury housing show, and will do so again in 2004. To visit the information center at 1700 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Suite 100, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive and go south to Horizon Ridge. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
