Sun City Anthem residents fit in fast to new lifestyle

When longtime Las Vegas residents Ruth and Claude Wilton visited Sun City Anthem for the first time, they felt right away "this is it."

"We knew this would be the place for us," Ruth Wilton said. "Everyone is so friendly. It's easy to make new friends."

The couple is originally from the San Fernando Valley in California, where Claude Wilton was an engineer.

"It's wonderful living here. Everyone at Anthem is new to the community and we're all looking for activities and companionship."

Ruth Wilton was a real estate agent.

"I recognized a good financial investment," she said. "And Sun City Anthem is good in many other ways, too. It's quiet, and we can see mountains all over. We can pick and choose among the many activities or just go to the club and find someone to talk with."

Most of Claude Wilton's activities at his new home involve the fitness center.

"I like exercising, especially the cross trainer and walking track," he said.

Claude Wilton also is a member of the bridge and computer clubs, as well as the Wood Chips, a new woodworking club. He is also interested in bocce.

Ruth Wilton participates in her share of activities as well. As a member of the performing arts club, she was in the recent "American Pride" variety show. The troupe will present a music and dance show in January and a comedy show next summer.

Wilton also is a member of a newly formed clown group.

"In full clown costume and makeup, we will visit patients in hospitals, clowning around to put a smile on the face of others," she said.

She uses the pool regularly for "water walking."

"It's great to watch the sunset and mountains from our village, Tall Mesa. We have some the nicest people in the world for neighbors," Ruth Wilton said.

The community features Anthem Center, a venue for special events and club meetings, and the site of Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. The center also contains a fitness area, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, walking tracks and wellness programs.

Located in the foothills of Black Mountain, Sun City is built around The Revere at Anthem Golf Club, which offers two courses.

Floor plans range from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet. Homes are priced from the mid-$200,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
