Pulte donation benefits Child Haven

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

Pulte Homes has teamed with Ernest A. Becker Middle School in Las Vegas to raise funds for Child Haven. The builder donated ceramic tiles and art supplies to the school's art pupils, who then decorated them for sale at the school's "Tiles for Smiles" fund-raiser, which is planned for Thursday.

"I thought this was a great way to teach the children about the importance of giving," said art teacher Sarae Gold, who is coordinating the project. "It's fun and lets them apply the skills they've learned in art class. More importantly, it illustrates how they can make a difference in others' lives."

The sale runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school, which is located at 9151 Pinewood Hills Drive, near Hillpointe Road and Rampart Boulevard. The public is invited to preview the tiles, which will sell for $15 each. Pulte representatives will be on-hand to assist.

All proceeds will be turned over to the Child Haven Children's Service Guild, which in turn will purchase clothing for the youngsters at Child Haven, a part of the Clark County Department of Family Services that assists abused, abandoned and neglected children.

Susan Klein-Rothschild, department director, is delighted about the partnership.

"Child Haven is grateful to the wonderful students at Becker and to Pulte Homes for undertaking this project," Klein-Rothschild said. "I'm really excited about the idea of children helping children. I know all the kids at Child Haven will be extremely thankful for the clothes the donations will enable us to buy."

Christy Stratton, director of marketing for Pulte Homes, said, "Tiles for Smiles ... is an outstanding example of the importance of giving."

In addition, the pupils will collect unwrapped holiday gifts for the pupils at Sunrise Acres Elementary, an at-risk school in Las Vegas. Those who bring a gift to help reach the goal of 1,000 toys will receive an ice cream sundae.
