DragonRidge central to hillside property

DragonRidge Country Club is central to MacDonald Highlands, a guard-gated community in Henderson featuring a variety of home sites, including many built on its sloping hillside.

"Outstanding views from MacDonald Highlands are one of the reasons for buying within our development. DragonRidge itself is another," said Rich MacDonald, president of MacDonald Cos., the developer. "Prospective buyers are finding that each hole of DragonRidge is a surprise. The course is exciting to play no matter the skill level."

The private course is situated among the community's canyons and features dramatic elevation changes. Named after a rocky ridge known to residents as the "Sleeping Dragon," the 18-hole championship course features nearly a million square feet of revegetated areas.

It was designed by Jay Moorish and David Druzisky, who are known for their ability to blend golf courses into natural surroundings, according to MacDonald.

The course is complemented by a 35,000-square-foot clubhouse, which includes a dining room, two mixed grills and lounges, a fitness facility, swimming pool and pro shop. Plans call for the facility to be expanded to include an event area.

Different membership packages are available for community residents and nonresidents, including golf, sport, corporate and social.

The developer is now offering golf memberships with the purchase of a custom-home lot within four neighborhoods.

Buyers can choose from parcels measuring one-half acre to more than two acres. Palisades, Lairmont, Dragon Gate and Glenbrook Canyon each offer a variety of custom-home sites priced from $800,000. They offer views of the city, mountains and golf course.

Residences are priced from $1.4 million and offer hillside or golf locations. In addition, a semicustom-home community is being developed by Toll Bros.; prices start in the mid-$800,000s, plus lot premiums.

Upon completion, the 1,200-acre community will feature 17 neighborhoods. It will have three parks encompassing about 10 acres with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; play areas; and picnic facilities. Also planned are five miles of fitness trails.

The information center is located at 1730 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Suite 100. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive and go south toward Horizon Ridge. It is open daily.
