Sun City Anthem club raises funds for NSPCA
Residents of Sun City Anthem recently gathered on the lawn at Anthem Center for A Pet A-Faire, a fund-raiser for the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, sponsored by the age-qualified community's pet club. The club raised nearly $5,000 for the society, which is seeking funds to expand its "no-kill" sanctuary from 27 kennels to 81. "Sun City Anthem residents are fortunate to have over 40 clubs and organizations that they can get involved in," activities director Brooke Garner said. "The pet club event was a great way for residents to visit with their neighbors and the community's canine friends while contributing to such a worthwhile cause." Local news anchor John Fredericks, with his dog, Jordan, served as the grand marshals of the fair. A registration fee included a doggie scarf, an autographed picture of Jordan and a goodie bag. Services and attractions included pet manicures, microchipping, three fun walks, portraits of homeowners' pets with Santa Claus; refreshments, sponsor booths, a pet bake sale, an adoption booth, pet kissing booth, fashion show, contests and other entertainment. The main amenity of the community is Anthem Center, which houses recreational and social facilities, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. A second recreation center is under construction and projected to open in second-quarter 2005. Del Webb's development offers 12 single-story designs, ranging from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet. Each home qualifies for Energy Star certification and includes energy-saving features such as low-e windows and blown-in cellulose insulation. Prices start from the high $200,000s to the high $400,000s. The Revere at Anthem Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship golf courses. To visit the model village, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then right on Alexandria Drive. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
