Class field trip brings Silverado students to Pardee subdivision
Silverado High School architecture teacher Mike Mundt recently brought his students on a field trip to Pardee Homes' Serenade neighborhood in the nearby Rancho Las Palmas community in the southeastern valley. "I've been bringing my students to study Rancho Las Palmas model homes for years," Mundt said. "As always, Pardee's Marti Marcus and building superintendent Sharon Walker were very gracious and generous with their time, allowing the kids an opportunity to understand the way a building really works -- things they could never learn from reading a textbook. "For instance, we studied the kitchen in Serenade's Plan One, which has a great-room design. For the first time, the boys understood why it's important to design a kitchen to be a central part of a family gathering area." Mundt owns a home in the community. The single-story Plan One features ceramic-tile counter tops, oak cabinetry, a breakfast bar, pantry and optional desk in the kitchen. At 1,950 square feet, the home can be built with as many as three bedrooms, or two bedrooms and a den. Plan Two, also single-story, measures 2,315 square feet with four bedrooms and an optional den. It has a three-car garage. At 2,547 to 2,872 square feet, the two-story Plan Three includes four bedrooms, three baths, a bonus room, optional loft and tech center. A three-car garage is standard. Plan Four is a 3,282-square-foot home with four bedrooms, three baths, a bonus room and library. It can also be built with as many as five bedrooms and four baths, including one of each on the first floor. A loft is optional. Standard features include high ceilings, ceramic-tile or wood entry flooring, oak stair rails, and cultured-marble counter tops in secondary baths. Owner suites offer walk-in closets, enclosed toilets, and separate tubs and showers. The homes are priced from $185,450 to $238,450. Rancho Las Palmas features tennis courts, a playground, volleyball and basketball courts, trails, and a barbecue area with a gazebo. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Windmill Lane, go west to Bermuda Road, turn left and drive to Brindisi Avenue, then follow the signs. Models are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Monday, when they open at 11 a.m. Pardee Homes has built about 21,000 homes in Southern Nevada since 1952. It is building developments in North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Henderson and other areas of Clark County. The company is developing the Eldorado community and Fiesta neighborhood in North Las Vegas; the Nevada Trails, Big Sky Ranches and Shadow Mountain Ranch communities in the southwestern valley; and the Renaissance and Crescendo neighborhoods at Seven Hills in Henderson.
