Eyes in the Skies: In Focus
When visitors step into Bill McDonald's offices, they can't help but check out the photographic map of the city on the wall. The map is indeed a wonder: McDonald took more than 100 photos over 11 flight lines from 18,000 feet over the city, scheduling his flight to avoid heavy traffic from the airports and cloudy, smog-filled skies -- a rare constellation of events in Southern Nevada. The photos were assembled painstakingly on a computer using geocoded reference points. The computer image is even more impressive, allowing the user to zoom in on a point of interest and possibly click on it for information -- zoning, demographics, the works.
