Summerlin residents showcased in community's calendarSPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
Nineteen Summerlin residents, and one very special dog, recently participated in a print advertising campaign for the master-planned community. Images of them, including Sport the canine, may soon grace the walls of more than 25,000 homes, as they are featured in a 2005 calendar to be mailed to homeowners within the community, courtesy of the developer. Kim Haley, associate marketing director for The Howard Hughes Corp., said the calendar may become a tradition. "Because of the overwhelming popularity of our first calendar, an 18-month 2003/2004 version, we are producing a second," she said. "It's our way of saying thanks to those who have purchased homes here and who have helped make Summerlin the vibrant, successful community it is today." Haley pointed out that since 2002, all of the community's promotions have featured residents. "There are no more credible spokespersons than those who actually call Summerlin home," she said. "This real-life approach continues to resonate with both those who live in Summerlin and those who are considering a move here." Kevin Orrock, executive vice president, agreed. "Summerlin is a success today not only because of skilled land planning, development and construction, but because of the residents who embrace the Summerlin vision," he said. Eleven residents from this year's campaign are featured in the calendar. They are: Chelsea Capurro, a high school cheerleader; Chef Mark LeVasseur; Bob Gardner, a motorcyclist; Chris and Alexa Darcy, father and daughter; friends Gabe Gutierrez, Ian Ogilvie and Zach Friel; Mary Ann Rivera, an avid shopper; Shannon Neiswonger, a resident of The Ridges; and Sport, the Summerlin dog. Last spring, Sport was selected from among 100 canines who answered the community's Doggy Casting Call. He has his own page as Mr. June, however 12 other dogs who auditioned appear in small inserts. "Choosing the Summerlin dog was one of the most difficult marketing decisions I've had to make," Haley said. "So finding 12 cute canine mugs to enhance the Summerlin calendar was easy." Campaign participants reflect the community's diverse population, and are shown engaged in activities that they believe define Summerlin. Summerlin aligns the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, and has 107 parks, more than 100 miles of trails, houses of worship, shopping and business centers, medical and cultural facilities, and nearly 100 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$300,000s to more than $2 million. Custom lots are priced from the $500,000s. Monthly rent for apartments starts from the mid-$800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
