Artist draws inspiration from Red Rock Country Club

It was an artistic endeavor that first led Gail Sachanko to Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin, where she had been hired to paint decorative faux finishes in the sales office and several of its model homes. That project and subsequent trips to the community by her husband, Bill, got them thinking about living at the country club community.

"We ... really weren't even looking for a new home. But we just fell in love with the community, and Bill found a great corner lot, which overlooks the fifth hole and a lake on the golf course and has views of the mountains and skyline," said Gail Sachanko, who has lived in the valley for 22 years with her husband.

The nearby scenery has influenced her work as a painter. She co-owns a company that specializes in faux finishes for upscale residences, including 18 homes at the country club, and commercial clients ranging from the Forum Shops at Caesars to the Stratosphere and the Aladdin.

"I had always been into crafts and color theory came easy to me. For years, I had always volunteered to do baby rooms for my friends then I finally decided to get serious about starting my business," she said. Her endeavors have expanded to include a 15-foot self-contained trailer filled with painting equipment that she uses on the job site.

She said the warmth of nearby Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is expressed in their two-story Mesquite Plan 2204 home through subtle faux finishes in gold and amber hues. The four-bedroom, five-bath home is perfect for the childhood sweethearts, their children Sasha, 14, and Alex, 11, and their two English bulldogs, Taco and Roxie. They designed their kitchen to include custom bar stools with a "Welcome to Las Vegas" motif.

The Sachankos are also golf members and enjoy dining at the clubhouse and using the community's aquatic center and golf course. Bill Sachanko, a licensed swimming pool contractor, recently hit a hole-in-one in one of the community's two 18-hole golf courses, both of which are designed by Arnold Palmer, and their children have enjoyed activities offered for the younger residents, including Kids Camp for tennis and golf.

Amenities include a 44,000-square-foot clubhouse with two dining rooms, a golf pro shop, banquet facilities and a boardroom; and an aquatic center with several pools, a spa, a children's splash-and-spray minipark and an outdoor grill.

Also featured are a golf practice facility with a double-ended driving range, a putting green and chipping areas; a tennis facility with nine hard-surface courts, including a stadium court; and an 8,000-square-foot sports club with exercise equipment, saunas, steam rooms, an aerobics studio, locker rooms and a supervised children's play center.

Priced from the $350,000s to more than $2 million, the community features one- and two-story designs with as many as six bedrooms and four-car garages, measuring from 2,100 to more than 5,300 square feet.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue west past Town Center Drive and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara and go west.

The model homes and sales center are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Siena, an age-qualified community in Summerlin.
