Computer club expands at Sun City Anthem
With 340 members, the Computer Club is one of the most popular clubs at Sun City Anthem, a Del Webb Corp. age-qualified community in Henderson. "Residents want to communicate with their families and friends across the country. Learning how to use e-mail, send pictures and becoming familiar with the Internet is the main reason people join the club initially," club president John Schwartz said. "The biggest thing is to get over the fear of the computer. We have more than 40 volunteer instructors who help their neighbors learn how to become computer savvy." Most of the classes are held in the community's lab of 11 computers and geared toward people with little or no experience. Classes cover such topics as word processing, spread sheets, Windows and the Internet. Residents also learn how to access the community's site, which provides information on the association, schedules of special events and meetings, chat rooms, customer service requests, and the status of homes under construction. Schwartz, a retired project manager for a computer software and hardware manufacturer in Michigan, and his wife, Anita, are happy with their purchase of the Monroe model at the community. "We love it here. We used to come here for vacation. Our children live in different states so we'd rendezvous in Las Vegas. Now, every morning we wake up to a bright blue sky," he said. "Anita plays tennis regularly and we both enjoy bocce ball. There's always so much to do here." Amenities include Anthem Center, a 75,000-square-foot facility that offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public, and a golf course. Seventeen models are available, measuring 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key program. Prices range from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. Model homes are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
