BLM land auction set

The federal Bureau of Land Management is offering 1,139 acres valued at about $99 million for sale.

The 45 separate parcels will be sold at auction next Friday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. The parcels, scattered throughout the valley, measure from 1.25 acres to 422.5 acres and have appraised values from $75,000 to $36.8 million.

Sealed bids will be accepted prior to the auction at the BLM's Las Vegas Field Office. Bids, due by 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, must begin at no less than the appraised fair market value. They also require a deposit of 10 percent of the bid amount.

The oral auction will begin at 10 a.m. in the Clark County Commission Chambers. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. High bidders must deposit 20 percent of the amount bid that day, with the remainder due within 180 days.

Unsold parcels may be offered on the Internet at www.auctionrp.com.

The sale is authorized under the 1998 Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act that requires the BLM to sell or otherwise convey public land within the greater Las Vegas Valley. To date, the BLM has conducted 10 auctions, selling or otherwise conveying 6,421 acres for nearly $150 million. Nearly 44,000 acres are still available.

"All the revenue generated by the lands sales stays in Nevada," said BLM Las Vegas field manager Mark Morse. "We have a unique opportunity in this state to make land available where it is needed for growth and use the revenue generated to protect environmentally sensitive areas along with providing more and better opportunities for outdoor recreation."

The sales also help pay for infrastructure and purchase of property around Lake Tahoe, and puts money into the Nevada State Education Fund.

Maps, appraisals and other information can be obtained at the BLM's Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. weekdays. Or, call the office at 515-5114.
