Californians find their place in Anthem Country Club
Living part time in Southern Nevada just wasn't enough for Larry and Abby Chudy of Santa Cruz, Calif. After the two found themselves spending more time at their second home in Del Webb's Anthem Country Club, they decided to move permanently to the Henderson community. "We realized this was the place to be," Abby Chudy said. They settled into their home in the guard-gated community, part of the Anthem master plan, with their cat, Nutmeg. "I love the seclusion of this community. Las Vegas is so close but not right on top of you. It's like we're in our own little world up here," Chudy said. Community amenities include a 3,700-square-foot athletic club with three swimming pools; cardiovascular equipment; aerobics; basketball, volleyball and tennis facilities; and a full-service salon. In addition, there is a 7,300-yard, par-72 championship golf course. "We love going to the country club restaurant and lounge. And we use the workout facilities, tennis courts and walking trails. I always feel safe, and even though we are not golfers, the course is just beautiful," she said. After Larry Chudy retired from a career as a medical administrator, the two started an import/export business. "We were doing trade shows in Las Vegas a lot anyway. Our home in Santa Cruz was a large home on 10 acres with horses, cats, dogs, chickens, the works. But we're very happy we went to the country club life," Chudy said. "We're trading wine and horses for martinis and golf," Larry Chudy added. Purchasing opportunities at the community are coming to a close. "We have only 27 inventory homes left," senior sales manager Jeb Koury said. "Eight of those are available for move-in before the holidays." Prices start from the $490,000s to more than $1 million. Homeowners receive social membership at the country club. Equity golf memberships are available as an option to all homeowners and is included with the purchase of select custom-home sites. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and follow the signs. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
